On Sunday, September 20th, AHF hosted an engaging community event at the Speedway Headquarters in Brighton – a free Pop Up Yoga session held in the courtyard of the soon to be renovated complex. The event was held in partnership with Jenna Hill and Kristin Khederian of PopUpAsana, and had over 40 registered attendees. VitaCoco and Essentia water provided complimentary refreshments to participants that were energized by the Sunday morning class. Although the courtyard is paved with asphalt and the buildings are very much in a ‘before’ state, the yogis who attended braved the hard surface for a fantastic 50 minute workout.
Pop Up Yoga at the Speedway Headquarters marks the first time that the courtyard has been used for something other than stabling horses or vehicle maintenance in the history of this 116 year old building. It was a great way to activate the Speedway now as AHF works towards delivering to the community a fully renovated, engaging and publically accessible project. This is the first of many more community driven events and programs in the future.
Building on the success, interest and excitement around this first event, AHF will be hosting a second Pop Up Yoga event at the Speedway Headquarters on October 18th at 9:30am.
More information about the project, which is part of DCR’s Historic Curatorship Program, and details about the next event can be found at the Speedway Headquarters website, www.speedwayhq.com.
