As Harvard continues to take over Lower Allston, more change is in store a bit further down the river at the former Charles River Speedway Headquarters administration buildings in Brighton. The historic buildings will undergo renovations in the coming months, becoming home to a project called the Speedway, meant to be a destination for dining, shopping, and drinking, the Speedway team announced today.
Notch Brewing, the Salem brewery known for tight session beers and crisp lagers, is opening a second location in Brighton.
Brewery founder Chris Lohring confirmed to Boston.com that Notch’s second brewery, taproom, and biergarten will anchor the Charles River Speedway headquarters, a plot at the intersection of Soldier’s Field Road and Western Avenue that was once home to the stables and offices of a mile-long horse track. The brewery is expected to open in summer 2020.
Boston, Massachusetts: Architectural Heritage Foundation (AHF) today announced plans for The Speedway, a revitalized destination to eat, drink, shop and gather in the historic Charles River Speedway Headquarters Administration Buildings in Brighton with Notch Brewing’s second brewery and taproom serving as its anchor retail tenant.
The Architectural Heritage Foundation took another step forward in its effort to revitalize the Speedway by hosting a bidders walk-through of the complex.
On September 17, 2018, AHF hosted a public information session on the progress of the historic Speedway Headquarters redevelopment project.
On Sunday, September 20th, AHF hosted an engaging community event at the Speedway Headquarters in Brighton – a free Pop Up Yoga session held in the courtyard of the soon to be renovated complex.
“Architectural Heritage Foundation is a preservation developer,” said company president Sean McDonnell. “The preservation piece is just to raise some money to do the preservation, but more importantly it’s also about how to get people in here doing fun things and getting them to come back and do them again.”
As announced recently by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), AHF and housing partner 243 Dutton LLC have been designated as the developers of the historic Speedway Headquarters Building in Brighton, Massachusetts.
